Young filmmaker launches Bern Film Club

8 minutes | Friday, 18 October 2024

Bruna Pereira, a 23-year old filmmaker from Bern, discusses her debut feature film, Hydrangeas Blood. This low-budget full feature production, shot in Bern, took a year to complete, with Bruna and her dedicated team working every weekend while juggling full-time jobs during the week. The film, which features a cast of 40 and a small crew, touches on sensitive and taboo topics that aim to spark dialogue and bring different perspectives to light. Through her work, Bruna highlights the power of cinema as a medium to communicate profound, often unspoken aspects of the human experience.

Under the banner of Mindmaze Pictures, her production company, Bruna is also launching Film Club Bern. Based in Bern, the film club aims to support the independent filmmaking community in Switzerland and across Europe. Its first festival will take place on October 27th at Pathé Westside in Bern.

Bruna’s vision for the film club is to promote the art of cinema not merely as entertainment but as a meaningful, immersive experience. She hopes to create a space where filmmakers can explore complex and often overlooked topics while fostering a deeper appreciation for independent films.

The festival will feature films from emerging voices, particularly those whose stories challenge societal norms. Taking place at the Pathé Westside in Bern, the event will be an intimate gathering for filmmakers and moviegoers alike. The festival has been entirely self-funded by Bruna and Pascal Beutler to preserve creative freedom, and they are inviting people back to theatres to rediscover the magic of watching films on the big screen.
