Ibsen’s scandalous play “Ghosts” is a scathing commentary on 19th century societal values; the play caused a furor when it opened. The themes, however, are timeless, touching on morality, hypocrisy, reputation, sacrifice and sense of duty – even to one’s own detriment. The play confronts the audience with the question of how much free will we really have and how much the past charts our future.
