On this morning's Breakfast Show, we speak with World Ironman Champion and Elite Athlete Loubna Freih, who is embarking on an incredible adventure to cross the Alps from Vienna to Monaco.
Starting March 1st, Loubna will be joined by mountain guide and close friend, Mélanie Corthay, as well as other elite female athletes who will join them at different stages of the journey. Together, they’ll cover nearly 2000km, traversing 65 glaciers and gaining 80,000 meters of elevation.
The route will include cycling, ski mountaineering, and running through Austria, Italy, Switzerland, and France before finally reaching Monaco on or around May 1st.
Loubna and Mélanie will be the only ones completing the entire course, which is expected to take around 60 days. Along the way, they’ll be joined by a stellar group of all-female athletes, including Gran Fondo cyclist Nathalie Monnier, ski mountaineering champion Laetitia Roux, and trail runners Maude Mathys and Emily Vaudan. This remarkable feat will be documented by director Aurélie Morrison for a documentary and followed closely by students in four schools across Switzerland, France and Monaco, creating an inspiring connection to the journey.
Loubna shares details about the project, the athletes involved, the scientific research on glaciers that will take place along the way with Association Water Family, and how you can follow along with the adventure. Follow the project along on the interactive map at www.alpinequest.org.
Best of luck, Loubna!
