All Against the Earth / Tout Contre la Terre

9 minutes | Monday, 6 February 2023

There’s an exhibition at the Natural History Museum in Geneva now - called All Against the Earth - or Tout contre le terre in the original French - that’s looking at melting glaciers, global warming and the erosion of biodiversity.- Fire and famine, heat waves, droughts and floods… it’s a scary topic, and a tough pill to swallow, but the exhibit approaches the topic from a variety of angles… and yes, it covers the science, but also it’s been carefully curated to also invoke our emotions.

With the contribution of the philosopher Dominique Bourg, the psychologist Tobias Brosch and the linguist Cristina Soriano,
.. also an art exhibit from international artist Bernard Garo, who’s actually from this region, with a studio in Nyon.

Bernard, is no stranger to looking at landscapes and the earth in his work.
I asked him to tell me a little bit about the art that he creates.

An exhibition that addresses, from the angle of emotions, climate change and the erosion of biodiversity.

Where are we in our relationship to the Earth, when many planetary limits are exceeded by the action of Man. This new state is beginning to manifest itself more and more clearly, and rather for the worse: heat waves, extraordinary droughts or floods, mega-fires, famines...

With the contribution of the philosopher Dominique Bourg, the psychologist Tobias Brosch and the linguist Cristina Soriano, the Museum offers to experience our emotions in order to better understand their impact in and in the face of the environmental crisis.

We must all act to contribute to the well-being of living things, including humans. In fact it is simply a question of living against the Earth and not against it.

The scenography, with low environmental impact, brings together naturalist collections, drawings, photographs, testimonies and emotions.
