Canton Zurich has issued an alert as measles cases are increasing.
The Zurich cantonal doctor, Franziska Kluschke, says the reason is vaccination gaps in certain groups, such as young and middle-aged adults.
Doctors are being asked to check the vaccination status of their patients.
There have been eight cases since the beginning of the year – much more than this time last year. There’s also been an increase across the country.
The first signs of measles are normally a fever, light sensitivity and inflammation in the mouth before the well-known rash breaks out.
Most cases heal without lasting consequences – but an infection can cause meningitis, pneumonia and ear infections – which can lead to permanent damage.
