The Swiss People’s Party is raising concern that a small Italian company is making life easy for thousands of Brazilians to obtain an Italian passport.
A national councillor, Lorenzo Quadri, says that means these new immigrants will have the right to live anywhere within the EU and Switzerland.
Around 100 years ago, about 1,3 million Italians emigrated to Brazil – this gives many descendants a right to a passport.
But is Switzerland seeing an influx of newly nationalized Brazilians?
No, says Bruno Arrigoni, who’s the mayor of Chiasso in Ticino. He says he hasn’t seen any Brazilians moving in.
