What now for Lancy after billboard ban?

After the vote in Lancy to ban advertising in public spaces – authorities are now trying to figure out what comes next.

The adverts won’t disappear overnight, says Damien Bonfanti, from the council. New regulations have to be drawn up.

But what to do with the existing 170 billboard panels? Many will have to be removed, although some can stay for local announcements. But who will put up these posters? That’s a question yet to be answered.

The panels are owned by the company SGA. It's hoped they will agree to sell them.

The commune will lose a quarter of a million francs in revenue – that budget hole needs to be filled.

And there still may be a delay as one local resident owns a panel which is visible to the public. Does that have to go? It’s likely federal judges will have the last say on that.
