The Federal Meteorological Office is closing down the blog it’s been running on its website at the end of the month.
It took the decision as it was being used to spread hate and conspiracy theories.
The office notes that all was generally fine until about the year 2020 – and then things started to darken.
Commentators questioned climate change, fed incorrect rumours of chemtrails and geoengineering. Many were simply abusive.
It takes a lot of effort to moderate the chats – and then only about 15% of users commented anyway.
But Meteosuisse says it will still welcome anyone with questions to contact them - but use Instagram or linked in.
