The real song battle commences

Winner Nemo (c) EBU

The battle is now on for one of the biggest prizes in television – which Swiss city will host next year’s Eurovision Song Contest.

The next contest will be held in this country after 24-year-old Nemo from Biel won on Saturday night.

The Swiss Broadcasting Corporation will be broadcasting the 2025 contest to the world and the scale of the event is not lost on them.

Yesterday, corporation executives met in an emergency meeting to discuss tactics and the first planning meeting is today.

The first question to answer is where?

Cities can apply to host it.

The advertising opportunity for that region is immense, as well as the money which will flow into it.

A study by the University of Liverpool in England determined the 2023 competition was worth CHF 40m to the city.

Not everywhere will have the facilities to hold the event. The initial list is Zurich, Basel, Bern and Geneva as they have the right infrastructure already in place. But there is time for another city to plead its case.
