Switzerland gives mine-clearers to Ukraine

Switzerland is supplying Ukraine with three Swiss made mine-clearing machines.

The Ukrainian prime minister, Denys Shmyhal, is in the country for a three-day summit. 

The gift of the new machines also comes with training. It’s part of a CHF 100m programme for Ukraine. 

The president, Viola Amherd, says land mines kill and maim thousands of people every year.

She says the clearing of mines is essential for reconstruction.
