Switzerland adopts EU charger law

It’s not really a surprising decision, but Switzerland says it will follow the rules set by the EU on harmonizing charging cables.

The European Parliament has passed a law that says all phones, e-readers, wireless devices, have to be fitted with a USB-C charging port by the end of 2024.

Laptops will have to comply by the end of 2026.

The idea is that it will cut down on waste as new devices will start to ship without chargers – on the assumption the consumer already has one.

It’s unlikely Switzerland would have had a choice anyway. The Federal Office of Communication says it was illusory to think that manufacturers would have made devices only for the Swiss market.
