A 17-year-old Swiss tourist is under investigation by Italian police after she was filmed defacing Rome's Colosseum by a tour guide who said her parents told him that 'She's just a little girl'.
Italian news agency ADN Kronos reported that the teenager was caught by the guide carving the letter ‘N’ into the Roman amphitheatre, which is nearly 2,000 years old.
The young woman ran towards her parents when she was confronted by the guide who was showing a group around the Colosseum.
The Swiss tourist could face a fine of nearly CHF 15,000 for damaging cultural property. Over the weekend, a fine was handed down to a 17-year-old German student on a school trip who was caught carving on a wall of the Colosseum.
And less than a month ago, a British tourist sparked outrage for defacing the Colosseum by carving his and his girlfriend's initials into the walls of the ancient monument. He was also given a substantial fine.
