The streaming service Netflix has added a million new users in Switzerland since the start of the pandemic – despite the US company charging subscribers here the most in the world.
A study by SonntagsBlick show here we have to pay CHF 226 a year. Americans pay the next highest – at 176 a year.
Other European countries are cheaper – Germany, Italy and Austria pay 163 francs, France 170 and the UK, 150.
André Bähler from the Consumer Protection Foundation wants an explanation from Netflix. He says the streamer operates worldwide and so has no local costs to bear – so Switzerland’s known high cost of living should not have an impact.
The SonntagsBlick tried to get a comment from the company, but they’re not responding to requests, say the paper.
