It will remain illegal to buy a train ticket after it’s departed.
At the end of last year, the Confederation responded to many customer complaints that the rule was too strict – and didn’t allow for someone to jump on a train – and then buy a ticket.
Initially the Federal Office for Transport backed passengers and said some are being mislabelled as fraudsters.
But the office has u-turned after a working group was set up to examine the issue, and the existing rules will remain in place.
The office refused to answer questions what led them to change their minds.
Passenger groups pointed out some other countries have a 10 minute leeway after the train has left the station.
