SRG/SSR faces massive cuts

Are the days numbered for public service broadcasting?

The new head of the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation says there will be the ‘biggest transformation in history’ as it needs to save millions of francs.

There have already been several cuts to programmes and staff – but it’s thought the management is gearing up to cut 1,000 more people.

Such a massive drop will fundamentally change the corporation.

Susanne Wille has only been running the SRG since this month, but her appointment was announced in May.

The government has already decided the licence fee will be cut 35 francs to 300 and more organisations will be exempt from paying it.

But there’s an initiative which states that CHF 200 is enough. The Federal Council may be forced to cut the fee further .
