A slight majority of Swiss residents support abolishing the rental value tax, according to a new survey published on Tuesday.
The rental value tax is a levy on homeowners based on the estimated rental income their property could generate - even if they live in it themselves.
The poll, carried out by mortgage platform MoneyPark and insurer Helvetia, found that 52% of respondents favour ending the tax. If it were scrapped, more than 70% of homeowners say they would at least partially repay their mortgage.
The survey also shows mixed views on related deductions - with just over half backing the end of tax breaks for maintenance costs and mortgage interest.
The survey questioned 1,000 people aged 25 and over in both German- and French-speaking parts of Switzerland.
