SBB plans to ditch Russian software

Swiss Federal Railways says it wants to get rid of Russian software it’s been using for several years, but there’s a lack of local talent.

Last year the SBB made the decision to change from the Russian company Infotrans. Its software is used to track the movement of trains.

It had to get an exemption from the government after sanctions against Russia was brought in. The company stresses no information is transferred to Russia.

But the move is proving more complex and expensive than expected as there are few options domestically – but three million francs has been earmarked for the changeover.

The aim is to be free of Russian software by the end of next year.
