A Geneva animal rights group is trying to stop the canton from shooting deer.
General hunting is banned in Geneva, and has been since the 1970s. But that has led to a deer population problem. The animals eat crops and tree saplings.
Last year, for the first time, wildlife officials were authorized to kill 25 deer. That permission has been renewed for this year.
The group, Animal Equité, says other options must be examined, such as contraception. It’s taken its case to the courts.
