Questions over police chief payout

Nicoletta della Valle

The outgoing head of the Federal Police Office is getting a year’s salary as a payoff – which is causing some politicians to question the nature of the resignation and are asking if there’s something to hide.

Nicoletta della Valle – who’s 62 years old – is due to leave her post after 10 years at the beginning of next year. She’ll be getting a lump sum of CHF 340,000.-

A national MP from the Geneva Citizens’ Movement, Roger Golay, says the amount is ‘indecent.’

Federal Councillor, Beat Jans, says the payment is within the framework of a termination agreement for employees of the Confederation. But he refuses to give the reasons for her departure.
