The European Court of Human Rights has backed two protestors who complained of heavy-handed policing by Zurich officers at a demonstration in 2011.
The European Court ruled the police violated their rights of freedom and security.
The two were arrested and detained for several hours before being released.
They failed to persuade any Swiss court that their rights had been violated – including the Federal Court.
European judges ordered they should be paid damages of EUR 1,000 and awarded costs of EUR 10,000.
