Plans to remove dumped munitions ditched

Another victim of European re-armament is that any plans to clear Swiss lakes of dumped munitions seems to have been ditched.

It wasn’t that long ago the government asked for ideas from the public on how to bring up thousands of tonnes of explosives safely.

But now the army wants more money for new equipment, the old will stay where it is. 

Bern says it has evaluated the situation – and there’ll be no immediate recovery operation.

Experts believe the old munitions pose no threat now.
