Dog owners are being warned that’s it’s important to pick up after your pet, even when out in the countryside.
As spring arrives, many are now heading out to take their dogs on a long walk.
But the mess they leave behind can spread diseases.
Fabrice Nanchen, an agronomist engineer, says the main problem is that dog waste decays very slowly – and in that time it can spread infections to livestock – which can mean the meat is not suitable for human consumption.
Farmers struggle to get compensation for any losses caused by dog waste.
The message is pick up - even in the big outdoors.
