Organic products too expensive

A new report suggests we’re paying far too much for organic food – and retailers are profiting, not the farmers.

A study by the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland suggests the mark ups on organic products are so high, we’re all paying CHF 100m too much. 

In an interview with the Sonntagszeitung, the study’s authors say the prices are endangering the economic viability of organic products.

The retailers dispute the allegation they’re making higher margins on organic food. But one farmer told the press that the shops are using Swiss famers to lure shoppers in and at the same time using their power to depress prices.
