Canton Vaud is issuing advice to walkers if they come across a wolf.
Such an encounter is more likely in the colder months as the predators follow deer, which move down to lower altitudes.
Wolves are now well established in the Jura mountains.
If you do come across a wolf, experts say it’s important to stay calm, keep your distance, don’t try to take a picture and walk slowly away.
If you have a dog, keep it on a lead.
If the wolf doesn’t move away, then shout, clap your hands, try to make yourself look bigger and throw objects at it.
Any encounter with a wolf has to be reported to the authorities.
