The Ministry of the Environment has published new guidelines for 5G mobile phone transmitters which is hoped will alleviate some fears and allow the continued expansion of the new technology.
Some cantons, mainly in the French speaking areas, have stopped allowing planning permission for new masts.
There are also two petitions running which are calling for the roll out to be put to the people, they have until the end of the year to collect 100,000 signatures.
The new guidelines reduce the general power of the transmitters – but allow for small bursts when in use. The signal strength will be measured on a 6 minute average – and if its too high for too long, it will be cut back.
5G services are already available in all major urban areas.
