Swisscom will lay an extra 3,200 km of fibre optic cables across the country.
The telecom giant, which recently bought Vodaphone’s Italian operation for EUR 8bn, is being forced to invest by the competition commission, Comco.
The commission says it believes Swisscom has been behaving abusively within the meaning of the cartel act.
The new cables will open up more competition for Swisscom as they are obliged to allow access to their infrastructure to others.
It’s thought the expansion programme will cost more than CHF 2 bn.
