More rent rises possible

Rents could be going up again.

Property owners can raise rents based on a reference interest rate set by the Swiss National Bank.

The rate was raised in June and rent rises of around 3% are now coming through. But the rate could be hiked again on Friday.

Owners are also allowed to reflect inflationary rises.

Rent rises will hit many at a time when health insurance rates are also climbing and inflation is eating away at purchasing power.

Property owners are only allowed to raise rents now if they had cut rents during the time when interest rates were falling.
