If you missed the Northern Lights, visible over many areas of the country at the weekend – experts say don’t worry – more shows are expected.
Pictures poured onto social media sites showing the sky pink/purple colour from almost everywhere in the country.
The Northern Lights, as the name suggests, are normally seen over the poles – but the sun has been ejecting massive flares as part of a sun storm going on which means the solar wind, packed with high energy ionized particles, create a spectacular show when they hit the atmosphere.
MeteoSuisse points out sometimes the lights are hard to see with the naked eye, but smart phone cameras are better at distinguishing the contrast, allowing for fantastic pictures.
Although the phenomenon is very rare in Switzerland, solar activity is expected to remain hight for the rest of the year, allowing for more opportunities.
