Lucerne says no to 16 year old votes

Canton Lucerne has rejected lowering the voting age to 16.

Over 75% said no to the initiative. It had already been rejected by the cantonal government and parliament.

Over the past few years, there’s been several attempts to lower the voting age – so far only canton Glarus allows 16-year-olds to vote.

Many commentators believe this may be the last opportunity for a while as the idea is largely rejected almost every time.
