Five years after the launch of the Léman Express, there’s a clear impact on the number of commuters using their car to get to work.
The Geneva Council of State answered a question by the Green party deputy, Cédric Jeanneret, who wanted to know the impact the train service has had for traffic between Annemasse in neighbouring France and Geneva.
The answer is significant: a drop in traffic of a third at the Thônex border crossing at rush hours.
Other crossings are also showing a decline in car traffic of between 11% and 16% - while at the same time, train usage is up.
Jeanneret is very pleased at the figures and says it shows more needs to be done to strengthen other train links, such as the line from Geneva to Lyon.
