Lake breaks temperature records

Lake Geneva broke records last year.

The lake hit the highest monthly average temperature for the last 30 years.

The figures from the International Commission for the Protection of Lake Geneva Waters show the surface temperature last year was 13.6 degrees – 1.3 higher.

In one-month last year, June, the temperature was actually above 20.

The change is concerning as high temperatures mean the lake waters don’t mix between the higher and lower levels enough, depriving the lower part of the lake of oxygen and nutrients.

But there was some good news, the amount of micropollutants is down, continuing a trend.
