From Monday, the Jet d’eau will be switched off for the next 5 weeks.
It’s normal at this time of year Geneva’s landmark undergoes maintenance – but that usually lasts only two weeks.
But the utility company, the SIG, says the work this year will be more complex as some components – that have been in place since the 1950s – need to be renovated and repaired.
That includes the water suction pipes.
Engineers say the aim is to keep as many as the original components as possible.
The water should start spurting again on December 5th.
