Jabs for 12 year olds and hesitancy causing problems

As expected, the government has given the green-light for anyone over the age of 12 to get vaccinated.

Although it may not happen immediately despite the go ahead. Many cantons are not ready to extend the age limit.

The head of the Federal Health Office, Anne Lévy, says everyone should get vaccinated as soon as possible due to the threat of the Delta strain.
Currently there are only a few cases in the country, but it’s expected to grow. The worry of the highly infectious strain means quarantine rules against those countries particularly affected by it are likely to stay for a while.

Two and half million people are now fully vaccinated and there are plenty of doses. So many in fact that not all of them can be administered. The reason is down to vaccine hesitancy.

Figures show the most scepticism comes from rural areas. Those living in cities are far more willing to get the jab. But there is an issue with young women who are avoiding the vaccine due to rumours it causes infertility.

That has been dismissed by experts around the world. Claire-Anne Siegrist from the Centre of Vaccinology at the University of Geneva calls it ‘nonsensical’ and England’s Chief Medical Officer, Jonathan Van-Tam says the theory is ‘biologically illogical’.
