Investigations into fake signatures

The Office of the Attorney General is confirming there are investigations into possible electoral fraud.

Suspicions have been raised due to a large number of invalid signatures being submitted for initiatives – in some cases it’s thought entire pages have been copied from previous initiatives.

An association, Incop, was formed to support campaigns – it’s being accused of collecting names in return for cash.

No one at Incop can be reached for comment.

The investigation was revealed by newspapers from the Tamedia Group. It says there have been house searches and people have been questioned.

The initiatives most under the spotlight are the ‘Stop the Blackout’ launched by pro-nuclear groups, the Neutrality Initiative, backed by the Swiss People’s Party, and the campaign to ban the import of cruelly produced fur products.
