The trend of telecommuting is changing the way we choose where to live and the types of home we want.
A study by the Federal Housing Office says in ten years from now, 40% will be working from home on a regular basis.
They will want larger homes to accommodate office space – but will be free to live away from city centres, says the report.
The authors also suggest it could increase demand for second homes in tourist regions. But then those properties may be occupied more which will be good news for local businesses.
In the longer term, it’s thought the whole concept of dormitory towns will change. People will want more services and activities near where they live.
