Hedgehogs are being killed by automatic lawn mowers.
The warning comes from Swiss Animal Welfare Services.
They say hedgehogs won’t run from the lawn mowers, but will curl up and hide.
The advice is to use them only while supervised and during the day.
Many of the machines claim to have sensors and will avoid animals. But recent tests show they were very ineffective.
The welfare service also asks if it is really necessary to have such as neat, mown lawn. Pointing out they are practically useless anyway, ecologically speaking.
