Health insurance premiums are going up next year – and Geneva will be one of the most expensive cantons.
Across the country, the average monthly premium will reach CHF 359.50, that’s a rise of CHF 29 or 8.7%.
Ticino will see the biggest percentage rise at 10.5%, but Geneva will have the highest premiums at CHF 454.40.
Those in Vaud will be paying CHF 400 and in Valais CHF 334.
But if you’re looking for the lowest monthly premium, you’ll need to move to the mountains. Appenzell Innerrhoden will cost CHF 246 and Uri CHF 272.
The government says the rises are due to higher medical costs, especially in the first half of 2022 and people switching insurance companies to find lower premiums, leading to lower-than-expected income. That now has to be compensated for.
The increased costs are leading to calls of a single fund. The president, Alain Berset, says the government rejects the idea – but admits it’s an issue that’s not likely to go away.
