Gravel gardens could be banned

The use of gravel in gardens could be banned across the country. Canton Solothurn has already banned them, saying gravel hinders biodiversity.

The Federal Council has also expressed it disquiet about the increased use of gravel.

A motion from the Social Democrat National Councillor, Martina Munz, wants parliament to adopt the Solothurn law nationally, otherwise there’ll be a patchwork of rules across the country.

But others are not so sure. A Swiss People’s party member, Christian Imark says gravel can sometimes makes sense and a ban is an attack on homeowners’ rights.
