Govt to pay for refugee language lessons

Geneva Ukrainian refugee hotline

The Federal Council is to give each Ukrainian refugee in the country an extra CHF 3,000 to pay for language lessons.

It’s considered important to encourage integration and finding work.

While all the cantons support the principle – many say they don’t think it’s enough and are also preparing their own offers.

The government says it may release more money – but it says it’s currently uncertain how long the crisis will last and the refugees will be in the country.

Already, Bern is giving the cantons CHF 18,000 a year for each refugee they accommodate. The CHF 3,000 is in addition to that.
