Glorious spring - possible water shortages

The forecasters' predictions have been proven true – and it could mean a drought this summer.

This spring is one of the warmest and driest on record - and coupled with a low snowfall, water supplies will be under stress unless we have a particularly wet summer.

The temperatures from March to May were 2.5 degrees above average – only 2007 and 2011 were warmer since records began. But it was one the driest periods on record.

At one measurement point above Davos, at this time of year there should still be about 1.4 meters of snow left to melt to feed the rivers and lakes – but there’s only 35 cm.
