Swiss glaciers have melted faster this summer than ever before.
Glaciologists from the from ETH in Zurich measured 20 glaciers across the country and saw only decline.
While the full report will not be out until the autumn, the team says the trend is clear and this year will break all records.
The worst hit is the Gries glacier in Valais. Researchers say the bottom of some crevasses can now been seen and as much as 4 meters of thickness has been lost.
While the conservation of the ice sheets are important – the scientists say the loss of the glaciers will have an impact on water supply in the valleys.
