Geneva releases over CHF 1m for Women's Euro 2025

The City of Geneva has released just over a million francs to support next year’s Women’s Euro Football Championship which is being held in Switzerland.

The amount was passed by the Council unanimously.

Geneva hopes the move will send a strong message to Bern which has cut its support for the tournament from CHF 15m to CHF 4m.

The cut is being fought by parliament. The Council of States has voted to urge the Federal Council to change its position and the National Council is likely to vote the same way in June.

Geneva sports councillor, Marie Barbey-Chappuis, says the tournament will bring significant economic benefits.

The competition will be held in various Swiss cities, including Geneva, in July 2025.
