Geneva plan to neuter stray cats

Several Geneva animal protection agencies are launching a campaign to capture stray cats and to neuter, chip and vaccinate them against rabies.

The operation is called ‘Cats Outdoors’ and also aims to highlight the problems of stray cats and the health risks of their uncontrolled reproduction and the threat on biodiversity.

After the animals have been treated, they will be re-released where they were found and then fed by volunteers.

Another aim is to help the survival of the native species of the European Wildcat, which is making a comeback in the Léman Basin.

Large numbers of stray domestic cats risk the integrity of the wild cats due to cross breeding.
