The Geneva government has lurched to the right after the yesterday’s second round elections – and former disgraced minister, Pierre Maudet is back in power.
Right wing parties formed a group called ‘the Geneva Alliance’ after a poor showing for right wing parties in the first round.
The move has been at least partially successful – and means they have 3 members in government out of 5 candidates. But the Swiss People’s Party and the Geneva Citizens Movement both failed to win a seat.
Pierre Maudet was kicked out after a scandal which suggested he accepted gifts from the Abu Dhabi royal family. He ran as an independent and secured a seat at the top table.
He’ll be in a powerful position as he’ll be between 3 right-wing members and 3 from the left.
