40,000 runners pounded the streets of the Geneva Old Town for the first full-strength Course d’Escalade since the pandemic.
The races had been cancelled in 2020 and then last year’s was limited.
Back for the first time since covid was the fun race – the Marmite.
4,000 took part, dressed in various costumes from trains to popcorn.
There were outfits reflecting the World Cup and some even dressed as Queen Elizabeth, who died this year.
But a star was born during the Elite race yesterday. 24-year-old Dominic Lobalu is from South Sudan and has found asylum in Sankt Gallen.
He won the men’s race with a new record time of 20 minutes, 24 seconds – undoubtedly spurred on by the massive support from the crowd.
In the women’s race, the favourite Kasanesh Baze from Ethiopia took the crown.
