Questions are being asked about the amount of money the Federal Roads Office is spending on outside PR agencies.
While the vote on autoroute expansions is now less than two weeks away, the office has awarded a communications contract to an agency with CHF 250,000 to put forward a positive message for the project.
It has done the same for other votes in the past around the country. Iwan Rickenbacher, professor of political communication, says information from the state should always be true, factual and objective.
Others worry that material from agencies favour style over substance.
The latest available poll show the outcome is too close to call, with 51% approval.
