The Federal Polytechnic, ETH Zurich, says it made a breakthrough on how to direct a drug to the affected part of the body – bypassing areas it’s not needed.
It could revolutionize cancer treatment by cutting back on side effects.
The researchers say they can use microparticles attached to the drug and then direct it with ultrasound.
Experiments in the laboratory have proven the concept with cancer drugs and experiments in mice have shown it can be controlled.
Further studies are needed before the technology can be used on people.
