An elderly man is on trial in canton Nidwalden, accused of shooting dead his wife following an argument over a pizza.
The 80-year-old says his wife became angry as he wouldn’t eat the food – and then insulted him.
The man then fired his army officer’s pistol, hitting her in the shoulder. She died shortly after.
The woman was found to have a blood alcohol level of 1.9. The man admitted he had also been drinking.
He called the police immediately after the shooting. He says it was accidental, but prosecutors say he almost seemed to be in a good mood when the police arrived and argue it was deliberate.
