The village of Moutier – currently in canton Bern – will switch to canton Jura in 2026.
The contentious issue took two votes and a recount to settle the matter. Opinions in the region remain split.
But following a meeting between the two cantons and the Confederation the date of January 1st 2026 was agreed.
It was also agreed the residents of Moutier will be able to vote in the Jura cantonal elections in 2025, although the vote will be before the formal transfer.
