Crime in Switzerland rose last year – especially burglaries and violent crime.
Home break-ins are the highest for 10 years. Last year there were almost 15% more compared to 2021 – a total of nearly 36,000.
Violent crime, including rape, was up 16% - at nearly 2,000 cases. It’s the highest since the survey began in 2009.
There were 42 murders in the country last year – exactly the same as the year before. 60% of those were in the home. The figures show a chilling difference between the genders and age in domestic life.
Of those who died in the home, there was only one man. While 15 women died and 5 children at the hands of a parent.
Various digital crimes are also climbing. Especially sextortion cases and purchasing fraud.
The head of the Conference of the Commanders of Cantonal Police Forces, Mark Burkhard, says the numbers are an ‘unfortunate development’.
